Spring Clean Your Body Too!
Need help finding the right cleansers for your spring cleansing program? Just ask your knowledgeable friends at Winter Park Market!
Spring is a great time to embark on a cleansing ritual.
Cleansing our bodies and organs is as important as diet, exercise and positive mental health. It is something which, optimally, should be done at least twice a year. When our bodies are exposed to free radicals (environmental toxins, car fumes, toxins in household objects such as paint and carpeting), and are subjected to poor diet, insufficient exercise and not enough water, they are not at their optimum to fight off infection. These factors also impede our bodies abilities to absorb nutrients from food and cause overall feelings of malaise.
Detoxifying will help the body restore to it’s natural balance
(remind yourself that each of us has our own unique requirements for what is ‘balanced’) and give us renewed energy and vitality. Remember to try to consume only organic fruits and vegetables during your cleanse.
What follows are among the best ways to start on your path:
Master Cleanse:
This cleanse been used successfully by thousands of people for many years. It is very simple…..
-- 8 oz. Purified Water
-- 1 Tbsp. Organic Lemon Juice,
-- 1/2Tsp. Organic Grade B Maple Syrup or Molasses
-- 1/8 Tsp. Cayenne Powder
The water in this mixture is for hydration, lemon juice is for your pH level, maple syrup for energy and the organic cayenne generates heat. Many people fast while doing this particular cleanse, some for up to ten days. However all of us are different, and many of us find it too challenging to fast. Drink the master cleanse for breakfast and lunch and then eat a light dinner comprised of raw foods (salads, fruit), whole grains, nuts and seeds. It is even beneficial to do this for just one day!
Colon & Organ Cleanse:
We sell many products at Winter Park Organic Market that are specifically formulated to cleanse all of the organs in your body.
Some people like to create their own cleanse using ingredients such as bentonite clay and psyllium seed husk, which although more labor intensive, have the same effect.
Among our popular supplement all-in-one products are Renew Life First Cleanse, Renew Life Cleanse Smart and Nature’s Secret Ultimate Cleanse. These products have a daytime formula and an evening formula, with the day capsules for cleansing the organs (liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, etc.) and the evening capsules for the colon (both the large and small intestine).
The capsules are gradually increased over the prescribed course of days, so that the body is not taxed too much at once. These cleanses are gentle enough so that they will not interfere with your regular activities and schedule. We also have many digestive enzymes from Enzymedica, Bluebonnet, Nature’s Plus and Renew Life, which when taken in conjunction with a cleanse, help us to get the most out of the foods we are consuming. These are products which can also be taken when your cleanse is finished!
Exercise as Detoxifier:
The skin is the largest organ of the human body and one of the best ways to cleanse it is through vigorous exercise. Sweating helps release toxins and keeps the pH level in check. Aerobic exercise also releases endorphins which promote feelings of well being and impactful exercise, such as walking, running, hiking are known to improve bone density. Also, exfoliating with a dry body brush is great to stimulate the nerve endings and facilitate new skin growth. Start at the bottom of your feet and work in a circular motion towards your heart, hitting all of your body. This is great to do before you shower or take a bath and feels wonderful!!!
Occasional trips to the hot springs, with all of it’s healing minerals is very beneficial, and warm baths with any of the Young Living Essential Oils, or natural bathing salts found in our natural living section aid in drawing out toxins as well.
Additional Cleansers/Detoxifiers:
There are many foods, herbs and nutritional supplements that act as great detoxifiers. Among them are apple cider vinegar, kombucha, miso paste (all fermented foods are wonderful for cleansing the liver, kidneys and assisting our pH level), and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. Herbs include Silymarin (Milk Thistle), Dandelion, Licorice, Artichoke Leaf, Green Tea, Tumeric and Marshmallow.
Winter Park Market sells some great herbal formulas for organ cleansing/support including Liver Detox by Renew Life, Liver PF by Jarrow and assorted single herbs from our excellent assortment of quality supplement companies.

Common Nutrition Shortfalls
In a study conducted by nutritionists and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, researchers found that many Americans, although we are eating enough calories, are nutrient deficient. Among the neglected nutrients are:
Fiber: In addition to assisting with digestive regularity, fiber aids with healthy cholesterol levels and also reduces hunger. Try whole grain (sprouted grain is even better) breads, fruits and vegetables (especially fruits such as apples and pears which you eat the peel) and nuts and seeds. Remember that eating the fruit or vegetable is better than the juice counterpart as it contains the benefit of the fiber, plus you are consuming less sugar and lesser calories (it takes us 2 lbs. of carrots in our juice bar to make one 16 oz. carrot juice).
Vitamin E: This vitamin is a strong antioxidant, and has been proven to help reduce risk of cancer and heart disease. It improves circulation, aids in tissue repair and can help with fibrocystic breasts. Thus far, Vitamin E has been found to protect against at least 80 diseases. Good sources are cold pressed vegetable oils, dark leafy greens, legumes, nuts and seeds, eggs, dulse, brown rice, oatmeal, and sweet potatoes.
Vitamin C: A very powerful antioxidant that is required for at least 300 metabolic functions in the body. Vitamin C is crucial in producing anti-stress hormones, helps create connective tissue, and is necessary for adrenal gland function. It can help reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase good cholesterol (HDL) and is essential for the formulation of collagen. Vitamin C is found in berries, green vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, collards, kale, spinach, swish chard) and citrus fruits. The best supplemental form of Vitamin C to take is Ester-C, which enters the bloodstream four times faster than standard Vitamin C and stays in the body longer.
Potassium: This mineral aids in muscle contraction, and maintaining stable blood pressure. It also works in conjunction with sodium to manage the body’s water balance. Signs of deficiency include extremely dry skin, acne, chills, diminished reflex function and muscular fatigue. Good sources include dairy foods, bananas, orange juice, avocados, blackstrap molasses, brewer’s yeast, brown rice, dates, figs, garlic, nuts and potatoes.

Common Nutrition Shortfalls
A recent study conducted in Switzerland on the homeopathic remedy, Arnica Montana found that the gel is at least equally effective as a 5% ibuprofen gel.
Researchers studied 204 people who suffer from osteo-arthritis in their fingers. The analysis was randomized, double blind meaning that the neither the participants nor the doctors knew who was applying arnica and who ibuprofen. The arnica was found to be as clinically effective as the ibuprofren and better tolerated by the participants. The study, to be published in Rheumatology International, shows that there is a solid choice for people not wanting to use a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen.
